frequently asked
what does "mig" mean?
миг (mig) is a russian word meaning "an instant" or "the blink of an eye." it's also a nod to the soviet aircraft designation (mikoyan-gurevich), which is where the latin rendering "MiG" comes from.
what can i practice in mig?
mig started as a speed reader and now has several practice modes: flash reading, vocabulary pairs and anagrams, noun cases (падежи), word order (порядок), and fill-in-the-blank. each one feeds a single mastery score per word, so your progress carries across modes. grammar modes are being checked by native speakers and roll out as they're ready.
which alphabet should i set as primary?
in paired mode, "primary" is the side shown first (the prompt). english-first is the easier exercise: you see the word you know, and recall the russian. russian-first is the harder exercise: you see the cyrillic and have to recognize what it means.
how do i import my own vocabulary?
tap the + button on the home screen. paste your list one entry per line, with english and russian separated by a comma:
hello,привет goodbye,до свидания thank you,спасибо
i found a mistake in a vocabulary set
please email the set name, the entry, and what you think the correct version should be. i'll review and patch in the next update.
does mig support languages other than russian?
not currently. mig is built specifically for english speakers learning russian. other language pairs may come in the future.
